Servicing and breakdowns
Keep your heat pump running at its best
Annual servicing and fault-finding for Samsung and Vaillant heat pumps, whether we installed yours or someone else did.
Annual service
Every visit ends with a written service record, signed and emailed to you.
A heat pump has fewer parts to wear than a boiler, but it still needs looking after. A yearly service keeps it efficient, catches small problems early and is usually a condition of the manufacturer’s extended warranty.
- outdoor unit cleaned, airflow and clearances checked, condensate draining freely
- refrigerant circuit inspected and leak-checked
- system pressure, expansion vessel and strainer checked and cleaned
- inhibitor or antifreeze concentration tested
- flow rate and temperatures measured against the design
- hot water cylinder safety valves operated and discharge pipework checked
- electrical connections, isolator and controls checked
- heating curve and schedules reviewed with you
- your measured efficiency worked out from a year of meter readings
Your efficiency, measured
Most modern controllers record how much electricity the heat pump used and how much heat it delivered. At each service we take those figures and work out your real seasonal efficiency (SCOP), then compare it with the design.
If it’s lower than it should be, we look for why: flow temperatures, cycling, hot water settings or the heating curve. Small adjustments often make a noticeable difference to running costs.
Breakdowns and faults
We diagnose and repair Samsung and Vaillant systems across mid-Wales.
If your heating or hot water stops working, a few checks can save a visit:
- Look at the controller. Note any error code or warning on the screen. It tells us a lot before we arrive.
- Check the power. Make sure the outdoor isolator is on and the heat pump breaker in your consumer unit hasn’t tripped.
- Check the pressure. If you have a pressure gauge on the system, note what it reads.
- In winter, look at the outdoor unit. A layer of ice that clears every so often is normal defrosting. A solid block of ice that stays is not.
Please don’t remove any covers from the unit or the cylinder. Then get in touch with the make and model, the error code and what’s happening, and we’ll come back to you as quickly as we can.
Systems installed by someone else
We regularly take on servicing for heat pumps fitted by other installers, including ones whose original installer is no longer trading. If the system has never been set up properly, the first service is a good chance to put that right.
