Air source heat pumps
Heat pumps designed for your house, not a rule of thumb
We handle the whole job: survey, design, installation, commissioning, grant paperwork, monitoring and servicing.
The design
Every quote is based on a room-by-room heat loss calculation, not the size of your old boiler. From that we work out:
- the right heat pump size, so it isn't oversized and cycling
- the lowest flow temperature your home can run at
- which radiators can stay and which need upgrading
- a hot water cylinder sized to how you use hot water
- where the outdoor unit goes, including the MCS 020 sound assessment
- an estimate of running costs and seasonal efficiency
You get a copy of the design. It's the yardstick we commission against.
The installation
We fit Samsung and Vaillant systems and know both well, from single units to cascades. The details that make a system last are the ones we're strict about:
- outdoor unit level, on a solid base, with anti-vibration feet and proper clearances
- external pipework insulated, sealed and UV-protected; wall penetrations sealed inside and out
- unvented cylinder safety pipework installed and recorded to Building Regulations
- electrical work tested and certified
- everything tidy, accessible and made good
Commissioning and handover
We set the heating curve, flow rates and hot water to the design and record every reading. Before we leave, we show you how to use the controls, how to see how much electricity the heat pump is using, and how to switch it off safely.
You'll get a handover pack with your certificate, manuals, warranties and our contact details.
Grants
Most homes replacing a fossil fuel boiler can get the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant towards an air source heat pump. As the installer, we apply for it on your behalf and take it off your bill. There may also be Welsh Government support depending on your circumstances.
Grant amounts and rules change, so check the current figures on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme page or ask us.
Aftercare
We check how your system is performing once it has run through some cold weather, and adjust it if needed. After that we offer an annual service covering the outdoor unit, water quality, pressures, safety valves, controls and a measured efficiency figure from your own meter readings. More about servicing and breakdowns.
Common questions
Will it work in an older house?
Often, yes. Stone and solid-wall houses lose more heat, but the design accounts for that. Sometimes a few larger radiators or some loft insulation makes a big difference. If a house really isn't ready, we'll say so.
Do I need to change all my radiators?
Usually not. The heat loss calculation shows which rooms need more output at a lower water temperature, and we change only those.
Is the outdoor unit noisy?
Modern units are quiet, and we site them to meet the MCS 020 sound limits for permitted development. We'll show you where it goes before we start.
How much will it cost to run?
It depends on the house, the design and your tariff. Your design includes an estimate, and after installation you can see exactly what it uses on the controller.
Can you service a system someone else installed?
Yes, for Samsung and Vaillant systems. Get in touch with the model and roughly when it was fitted.
